Three days is the sweet spot for Khao Yai. It’s enough to see the national park properly, enjoy the food and wine, and still have long afternoons by your private pool. Here’s a luxury itinerary that balances all three.
Base and transport
Stay in a private pool villa, ideally in Mu Si for quick park access. See private luxury pool villa resorts in Khao Yai. Use a private driver or your own car, because sights are spread out. Read Bangkok to Khao Yai for transport options.
Day 1: Arrival, art and sunset
- Morning: drive from Bangkok, around three hours.
- Lunch: Thai food at a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand restaurant such as Krua Kampan in Mu Si.
- Afternoon: check in, swim, then visit the Khao Yai Art Museum (about 8 km north of the park gate).
- Evening: dinner at your villa or a hilltop restaurant.
Day 2: A full day in the national park
- 06:00: enter at the northern gate. Drive slowly and watch for elephants and deer.
- 07:00: observation tower at the grasslands.
- 09:00: Haew Suwat waterfall.
- 11:00: Haew Narok, the park’s tallest waterfall. Take the stairs slowly.
- Lunch: a simple meal near the visitor centre.
- Afternoon: Pha Diao Dai viewpoint if it is open (it may close seasonally), then leave before 18:00.
- Dusk: watch the bats emerge near the park gate.
- Evening: a celebration dinner at Poirot, InterContinental Khao Yai.
Day 3: Wine, farms and a slow goodbye
- Morning: breakfast at your villa, then a last swim.
- Late morning: a tasting tour at PB Valley Khao Yai Winery.
- Lunch: the Great Hornbill Grill at the winery.
- Afternoon: stop at Primo Piazza or a farm cafe, then drive back to Bangkok.
Adjustments
- With children: add Primo Piazza’s animals and a night spotlighting drive. See family pool villas.
- Couples: swap Haew Narok for a spa afternoon. See romantic getaways.
- Green season: waterfalls are at their best, but check for viewpoint closures.
