Thailand has some of the finest hotels in Asia, from century-old riverside icons in Bangkok to island hideaways reached only by boat. Rather than relying on marketing claims, this guide uses the MICHELIN Guide’s 2025 Key selection, an independent hotel recognition, as its starting point, and adds verified details from each property. Use it to pair a Khao Yai escape with the rest of a Thailand itinerary.
About MICHELIN Keys: the MICHELIN Guide awards one, two or three Keys to hotels it considers outstanding. Three Keys means “an extraordinary stay”. In its 2025 selection for Thailand, the Guide recognised 62 hotels: 6 with Three Keys, 21 with Two Keys and 35 with One Key, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Thailand’s Three-Key hotels (2025)
Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok

Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai

A collection of private villas on Koh Samui, and the only villa collection among Thailand’s Three-Key hotels.
Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Pavilions and villas on the Phranang Peninsula, reachable only by boat. Some pavilions have enclosed private plunge pools. Check renovation notices before booking: the resort has announced closures of some facilities in late 2026.
Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle
Chiang Rai
Opened in 2006 where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet, at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong rivers. It has 15 tents and an Explorer’s Lodge, designed by Bill Bensley Design, with elephant experiences and all-inclusive benefits for guests. Fact sheet.
Chiva-Som
Hua Hin
A wellness sanctuary on Hua Hin beach, operating since 1995, about three hours by road south of Bangkok.
InterContinental Khao Yai Resort
Khao Yai · One MICHELIN Key
The only Khao Yai hotel in the 2025 Key selection, built around restored railway carriages. See our best resorts in Khao Yai.
Building a Thailand itinerary around Khao Yai
- Bangkok + Khao Yai: the easiest pairing, about three hours apart by road. Spend two or three nights in the city, then two or three in a private pool villa.
- Khao Yai + the Andaman coast: drive or take the train back towards Bangkok, then fly to Phuket or Krabi for islands and beaches.
- Khao Yai + the north: combine forest and wildlife in Khao Yai with Chiang Mai’s temples or the Golden Triangle.
