Thailand’s best-known luxury hotels are famous for good reason. But some of the country’s most memorable stays are quieter: reached by boat, tucked into mountains or perched where three countries meet. These are retreats for travellers who value seclusion over scene.

Details are drawn from official property sources and the MICHELIN Guide’s 2025 Key selection for Thailand. Always confirm current facilities and access before booking.

Six Senses Yao Noi, Phang Nga Bay

On Koh Yao Noi, between Phuket and Krabi, all 56 accommodations are pool villas with infinity-edge pools looking across Phang Nga Bay’s limestone islands. Getting there takes about an hour from Phuket International Airport by car and boat. It holds Two MICHELIN Keys.

Rayavadee, Krabi

Set on the Phranang Peninsula and accessible only by boat, Rayavadee’s pavilions and villas are styled like a Thai village. Some have enclosed private plunge pools. It holds One MICHELIN Key. The resort has announced work on some facilities in late 2026, so check before you book.

Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, Chiang Rai

Since 2006, this camp has offered 15 tents and an Explorer’s Lodge at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong rivers, where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Bill Bensley Design created it, and elephant experiences are central to a stay. Official fact sheet.

Chiva-Som, Hua Hin

A wellness sanctuary on Hua Hin beach since 1995, around three hours by road from Bangkok. It’s for travellers whose idea of luxury is rest and renewal.

Amanpuri, Phuket

On a quiet headland above Pansea Beach since 1988, Amanpuri feels secluded despite being on Phuket. Its villas each have a private pool, and some have up to nine bedrooms. It holds Three MICHELIN Keys.

Khao Yai: the hidden retreat closest to Bangkok

For a hideaway without a flight, Khao Yai’s private pool villas offer forest, cool air and privacy about three hours from Bangkok. Read why Khao Yai is a luxury destination and our private luxury pool villa resort guide.

Combining retreats

A balanced Thailand trip might pair a Bangkok icon with Khao Yai’s forest, then finish on the Andaman coast. See luxury hotels in Thailand for the full MICHELIN Key picture.
